Japura Kings Vs Moratuwa Sharks in Red Bull Campus Cricket 2013 finals on Saturday

The second edition of Red Bull Campus Cricket 2013, Sri Lanka’s first ever inter-university T20 tournament, will be worked off on 26 January, at 2:00 p.m. at the P. Sara Oval. Japura Kings of Sri Jayewardenepura University squaring off with Moratuwa Sharks of the University of Moratuwa in the final.



The national champions of the finals will then face the champions between the best campuses of 12 other Nations, including 10 test-playing nations of the ‘Red Bull Campus Cricket World series Championship’ which is to be held in India later this year. This would be the first Red Bull World Series featuring the sport of cricket.

The first semi final was a closely fought battle, where Japura Kings edged out Peradeniya Lions of the University of Peradeniya by nine runs.

Batting first, Japura Kings scored 114 for seven in their 20 overs with K. Silva top scoring with 41. M.K. Perera was the pick of the bowlers for Peradeniya Lions with two for 21 off his three overs.

In reply, Peradeniya Lions fought hard but were eventually bowled out for 105 runs in the 20 over. R.S. Wijesekera top scored for Peradeniya Lions with a useful 45 but the rest of the batting folded to hand Japura Kings a berth in the Final.

The second semi final witnessed a low-scoring affair with Wayamba Heroes batting first and collapsing to 87 all out in 19.5 overs. A.M. Seelaratne was the top scorer with 23 runs while N.U. Gunathilake caused the most damage for Moratuwa Sharks, with his four for 14 off four overs.

In reply, Moratuwa Sharks knocked off the required runs by the 14 over for the loss of just three wickets, on the back of a solid 42 by N.S. Marasinghe.

The 2013 edition of Red Bull Campus Cricket 2013 witnessed 14 local universities, battle it out to be crowned National Champions.

The local universities were divided into four groups named; Wijaya, Gamunu, Bahu and Kashyapa with the matches being played in two rounds at four separate locations across the island.

The inaugural Red Bull Campus Cricket World series Championship will feature teams from India, Pakistan, England, the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, West Indies, UAE and Bangladesh.
