The Jeep Wrangler Southern Night Rally 2014, nick named ‘the journey through the wilderness of the south’ is scheduled to rev off at 7 p.m. on 1 November in Matara.
This is the 16th (TSD) National Rally organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) since its inception in 1997.
This year’s rally will cover 550 km of roads and byroads in the Matara, Hambantota and Monaragala districts and will be a challenge for both drivers and navigators alike.
The rally will be held in two stages, with the first starting opposite the Sanath Jayasuriya Ground in Matara and ending at Morawaka, while stage two will start at Morawaka and end at Matara. The course has been plotted by SMSC’s veteran plotter Andrew Silva who has the experience of plotting the course for the 15 TSD rallies organised by the club. The Southern Rally has earned a reputation of being the most challenging annual TSD Rally in Sri Lanka and is also one of the best organised motor sports events in the country.
The awards ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on 2 November at the Matara Rest House premises. The first three winners of each stage and the first 10 overall winners will receive prizes and trophies.
Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, the authorised distributor for Jeep in Sri Lanka, is the principal sponsor of this year’s night rally while Laugfs Lubricants, manufacturer and distributor of Laugfs Oil in Sri Lanka, is the co-sponsor.
