Jerry Huxtable (Sri Lankan golfers UAE Open Golf Tournament), Suwen Selvaratnam (Gross championship for ladies) and Banker Sarath Priyaratne (Men’s Gross championship) won their respective segment at the third Sri Lankan-UAE Open Golf Championship organised by Sri Lankan golfers in the UAE and worked off at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella last week.
Over 100 golfers both ladies and men took part in this tournament with the majority of them from Middle Eastern countries. The overall winner of this championship Jerry Huxtable secured the best Stableford points of 42. He was awarded with the trophy together with a return ticket to Dubai and three days accommodation and also playing golf at various golf courses in the UAE.
The other main event was the Gross Championship for ladies and men. The Ladies event was a close battle between Suwen Selvaratnam and Niloo Jayatillake. In the end Suwen Selvaratnam got the better of her opponent. The men’s gross was won by veteran Banker Sarath Priyaratne with a score of 41 with top golfer Nimal Wettimuny taking the second place.
