John Keells Group became the overall First Runner-up for the second consecutive year at the Mercantile Badminton Championships held at S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia from 26 November to 4 December. It was yet again a significant moment for John Keells Group as the team emerged first runner-up by beating NTB by 15 points and losing out to HNB – a Badminton powerhouse packed with national players in their contingent.
The final overall results were:
HNB –127 points
JKH – 115 points
NTB – 100 points
The John Keells Group results were as follows:
Ladies Veterans Division
John Keells Group was placed third. Team consisted of Shivanthi Kotage (Capt), Walkers Tours Ltd., and Chandani De Silva, Asian Hotels and Properties PLC.
Ladies “A” Division
JKH “A” Team was placed forth. Team consisted of Shalini Hewakopara (Capt), Asian Hotels and Properties PLC, Nilangi De Silva, Union Assurance, Kushani Daluwatta, John Keells (Teas) Ltd.
Ladies “C” Division
JKH “B” Team was placed third. Team consisted of Ruvini Ekanayake (Capt), John Keells Holdings and Shivanthi Kotage, Walkers Tours Ltd.
Ladies “D” Division
JKH “C” Team was placed third. Team consisted of Vishadini Fernando (Capt), Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Chandani De Silva, Asian Hotels and Properties PLC and Sasala Dissanayake, Keells Hotels Management Services.
Men’s “D” Division
JKH “A” Team was placed third. Team consisted of Asela Perera (Capt), Ceylon Cold Stores, Ashan De Silva, JayKay Marketing Services Ltd, Gaminda Gunawardana, Union Assurance, Prabath Harshakumar, Walkers Tours Ltd, Kumar De Silva, JayKay Marketing Services Ltd, Niroshan Fernando, Keells Food Products and Nirmal Nonis, JayKay Marketing Services Ltd.
Men’s Veterans Division
JKH “A” Team was placed third. Team consisted of Prabath Harshakumar (Capt), Walkers Tours Ltd, Andrew Gunarathna, Ceylon Cold Stores and Niroshan Fernando, Keells Food Products.
