Kandy kicked off the season in grand style when they scored a 14-try blitz against CH&FC at their home ground in Nittawela last weekend.
Kandy went on to score 96 after leading 54-0 at halftime. CH did not trouble the scorers at all.
Kandy scored 13 tries with Sri Lanka Sevens skipper Dhanushka Ranjan planting four of them and Richard Dharmapala recording two. The remaining tries were scored by Tharindu Chanaka, Shashika Jayawardena, Sayuru Anthony, Arshard Jamaldeen, Roshan Weeraratne, Kanchana Ramanayake, Thilina Wijesinghe and Mohamed Yakoob Ali. Jamaldeen converted 12 of them with Thilina Wijesinghe on target with his sole conversion. The game was refereed by Irshard Cader.
Kandy will travel to Ratmalana to face Air Force next Saturday.
Meanwhile, second-placed Havelocks outplayed Sri Lanka Air Force to earn a 29-5 win after leading 14-5 at halftime. Air Force’s only try was scored by Thilina Bandara while for the park club tries were scored by Nison Perera, Sharo Fernando and Hirantha Perera (2). Dulaj Perera converted one of them. The match was refereed by Priyantha Gunaratne.
