Kandy outclass Police in practice game

By Shamseer Jaleel Kandy Sports Club came out for the very first time this season under former Trinitian Sean Wijesinghe at the Pallekelle Stadium over the weekend against the Police Sports Club. Kandy SC went on to win 43 points (4 goals, 3 tries)-7 (1 goal). They led 21-0 at the breather. Kandy SC played without some of their top stars this season due to injury or national duty. They missed Fazil Marija and Richard Dharmapala, both of whom were away from the country due to family commitments. Furthermore, Anurudha Wilwara is injured and Nigel Ratwatte and Gayan Weeraratne are on national duty in China. Kandy SC scored through winger Danushka Dyan, winger Lavanga Perera (2), centre Pradeep Liyanage, centre Galdano, fullback Thilina Wijesinghe and centre Oshan Perera. Kandy Fly Half, South African Quinton Crocker was on target with four of his conversions. For Police SC, their solitary try was scored by B. Warnapura with Samantha Lakshan adding the extra two points. Both teams dished out some quality rugby though conditions did not favour open rugby as heavy rain continued to beat down throughout the evening. Police missed scoring opportunities due to aimless kicking and carelessness while in possession of the ball. Police were coached by Hafeel Marson. Kandy SC was coached by South African Johan Taylor. Kandy SC will kick off their inter-club season this year with a game against Sri Lanka Air force in Ratmalana on 1 November.
