By Shamseer Jaleel Kandy Sports Club will be all out to continue their winning streak at the Inter-Club Rugby Competition when they lock horns with Police Sports Club on 7 December at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Kandy SC will be at full strength for this encounter as they know Police are all out to topple Kandy’s winning run. Kandy SC led by Sean Wijesinghe, have some top class players in their ranks. Their South African flanker Chris Colette is in peak form. On the attack he split the opposition defense on a number of occasions. He was instrumental in ending Navy SC’s unbeaten run two-weeks ago as well. Their three quarter line is led by Sri Lanka fifteens and sevens player Fazil Marija. He will be ably supported by Lavanga Perera and Anurudha Wilwara occupying the winger’s position. They have one of the best defenders of the game – the Kenyan sevens star Oscar Ouma. Pradeep Liyanage and Gayan Weeratane playing at their best in centre position with ever safe Nigel Ratwatte to occupy the last man to defend the line.   Oscar Oruma   Police SC will be expecting a lot from their Fijian player Apisai Naqaliva. The Fiji sevens specialist is one of the players Kandy will need to mark. But the rest of the Police players need to chip in if they want to challenge the Kandy outfit at home and in front of more than 5000 supporters. At present, Kandy SC are on top with 23 points and Police are at number six with 13 points. Kandy SC skipper Sean Wijesinghe stated, “The full season is open now and two to three teams are on the run for the league. We should click well as a team on match day. We do not want to take any team lightly. Police is one of the top sides this year and they have already beaten one of the top teams CR&FC last week.” “This is a long season and we want to keep the focus of our players. We have two home games against CR&FC and Police and then we will play CH&FC away. We want to stay on top at the end of round one and continue our good work to bring back the league for Kandy. We owe a lot to our club and rugby crazy fans in Kandy who are behind us even we win or lose.” The game will be handled by one of the overseas referees from Singapore.
