Kandy to kick off the season on 1 November

By Shamseer Jaleel Kandy Sports Club, the only club from the up country which has been in existence for more than 100 years, will come out for the very first time this season when they lock horns against Sri Lanka Air Force on 1 November at Ratmalana. Kandy SC will be led by former Trinity and Sri Lanka fifteens skipper Sean Wijesinghe. They will have the service of their ever-reliable coach Johan Taylor who is back with the club after a short stint away from Sri Lanka. Kandy will also have three overseas players; two South Africans and the third player, a Fijian, will be in the island tomorrow. Meanwhile, Navy SC under Yoshitha Rajapaksa will kick off the 14/2015 Inter club season when they lock horns with Hambantota Sharks in Beliatta on 31 October. Police SC will host Havies on 1 November. On the following day in a tense battle Army SC will lock horns with CR&FC at the Army Grounds. Meanwhile Kandy SC will have three home games against Havelocks Sc (15 November), Police SC (7 December) and CR&FC (14 December). Army too will field a formidable outfit under Rohitha Rajapaksa with some top class players to make debut for the solders. CH&FC Under Dilip Selvam will have the majority of the up country players who pulled out due to the closure of the Nawalapitiya Club. The Red Shirts are lucky to obtain the service of the best local expert in the field of coaching, Imthisham Marrikar. The former Trinity ‘Lion’ will be the Head Coach of the Longdon Place club this year.
