Last week, the outgoing Cricket Kenya CEO Tom Sears, disclosed that a former member of the national cricket team was under investigation by the ICC for interfering with matches.

It has now emerged that the irregularities under investigation surround the Kenya vs Pakistan 2011 World Cup match in Hambantota.

ESPNCricinfo have reported that the ICC were initially alerted to an incident involving the Kenyan player outside the World Cup based on a report from another player about approaches made to spot-fix international matches. That charge was apparently not pursued due to lack of evidence aside from the other player’s allegations.

Kenya performed below expectation in the World Cup hosted in India and Sri Lanka and the result was a review by the administration in the African nation. Contracts of some seniors players who were with the national team for years were not renewed.

Both Cricket Kenya and the ICC have refused to make any comment about the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit’s ongoing investigation.
