Kenyan player Oscar Ouma to make Kandy SC debut

By Shamseer Jaleel Former Kenyan under 20 player and IRB (International Rugby Board) World Series sevens star Oscar Ouma of Kenya will make his Club debut for the Kandy SC against Havies this week-end Defending Inter club Rugby League champions Navy SC and one of the top teams this year CR & FC will clash in one of the important encounters at the Welisara grounds on November 15.  At present the Sailors led by Yoshitha Rajapakse occupy the number one slot with 12 points under their names with two easy wins over Hambantota Sharks and Police SC. While the “Red Shirts” under Ashan Costa and Coached by Imthisam Marrikar got the better of Army SC and their traditional rivals Havelocks SC last week. According to reliable source one of the foreign referees will be brought down to blow this game. On the same day (November 15) Kandy SC smarting from their last week-ends defeat against Army SC will be hosting Havelocks SC at Nittawela in front of their die hard home crowd. This match which will be played at Nittawela which will be Kandy SC’s first home match. At present they occupy number 4 slot one behind Havies. The only Up country team to play rugby for more than 100 years have got one more Kenyan player Oscar Ouma, a sevens specialist who will make his debut at Nittwela at this game. Kandy SC under Sean Wijesinghe are expected to field a full side and continue their winning streak at Nittawela. This game will be handled by UAE referee Morris Butler. The week-ends proceeding though will start (November 14) with the game between Police SC and Hambantota Sharks at Police Park. One of the top class referees in the country Dinka Peiris will handle the whistle. Dinka was the only referee to be invited by the Singapore Rugby Union recently in the All Saints rugby encounter which took place last week. On Sunday (November 16) CH & FC will host the high riding Army SC at Maitland Crescent. This game will be refereed by Aruna Rankothge. Meanwhile Havelocks SC lodged an official complaint to the governing body SLRFU (Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union) regarding the poor refereeing in their game against CR & FC. The on-going Inter club league is full of poor refereeing even Kandy was at the receiving end.
