The third Leg of the Kik Cola Junior Super 16 Rugby Championship will take place on 9 September 2012 at Royal Sports Complex after a break of one-and-a-half months due to School holidays and fasting.
Going by the thrills and excitement this event has generated in the first two legs, the third round should also dish out lots of exiting rugby at the most-looked-forwarded-to junior rugby event in the island as juniors from eight leading rugby playing schools from Colombo lock horns at the Royal Sports Complex on 9 September.
This year all games are conducted under the guidelines of the International Rugby Union (IRB) with emphasis on safety, fun and skill development of the kids, hence the organisers have done away with the selection of any winners from the matches with the intention of making the overall atmosphere one of participation and development.
The response from the players, the schools and the parents has been overwhelming and this has justified the need for an event of this nature. Over 400 junior ruggerites have displayed their talent, improved their skills, gained new experiences and shown their love for the oval ball at the last two legs and justified the organisers’ faith in this event over the last three years.
The support of the sponsors – Kik Cola, Referees Society, Royal Sports Complex Authorities, participating schools and the sport governing body (school and national) – has been a very important element for the overall success of this event.
Of course the overall winner is the game of rugby and the actual benefit of this event will be seen in the years to come when these players start to represent their respective schools at the senior level and hopefully at the national and international level.
The organisers invite all rugby enthusiasts to come and witness future rugby stars show their rugby prowess at the tournament.
