Korea supports Sri Lanka’s National Baseball Team

From left: Lah Je Hoon, Park Chul Soon, Chang Won-sam and Sagara Kariyawasam Korea’s legendary baseball player who has a miraculous record to gain 22 consecutive victories as a pitcher in the first year of professional baseball of Korea, Park Chul Soon, has been appointed as the Head Manager of the Sri Lankan national baseball team. Park has commenced training the team from April this year in preparation for the Asian Baseball Cup games to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, this May. The dispatching of Park to Sri Lanka national baseball team was planned as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) and the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC) on the occasion of the Incheon Asian Games last September. To support the Sri Lankan baseball team, essential baseball equipments, including shoes, bats, gloves, helmets, protection gear and chalk powder, will be donated through the joint efforts by Skyline Sports Inc. (President and CEO: Lah Je Hoon), Uiwang-si Baseball Association (Chairman: Kim Beak Sun) and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. On Tuesday, 21 April, a handover ceremony of the equipment to the Sri Lankan national baseball team was held at the Ambassador’s Residence. Among the present were Chang Won-sam, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Sagara Kariyawasam, First Vice President of the Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball Softball Association (SLABSA), Park Chul Soon and the appointed Head Manager of the Sri Lankan National Baseball Team. Upon this occasion, Korea hopes to enhance bilateral cooperation in the sports sector by fostering people-to-people exchanges and strengthening the friendly relations between Korea and Sri Lanka.
