The Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship sponsored by Ceylon Agro Industries – Prima Group for the fourth consecutive year saw a very high standard of golf over the three days concluded at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
Kyle De Silva from the USA clinched the overall championship for the first time playing brilliant golf over three rounds aggregating a total gross score of 219.
The rest of the field was far behind, no match for Kyle. On day three Kyle continued his form by carding five over par round clinching the win by 14 shots. Coming second was Sachin De Silva of Bristish School who carded a total aggregate gross score of 233.
Development squad player Channaka Perera impressed on the final day by carding a gross 77, aggregating a total score of 241 over the three rounds. The three boys also competing in the Gold division age group 15 – 17 saw the winners being Kyle De Silva, runner up Sachin De Silva, 2 nd runner up Channaka Perera and third runner up Sasinathan of Victorira Golf Club, Kandy.
In the silver division age group 11 – 14 years Zaffar Sikkandar of British School played consistant golf over three days to win the title with a total aggregate score of 256.
Prashan Peiris of St Thomas Prep came second with a total aggregate score of 258. Isihara Fernando showed much promise by carding and excellent round of 87 gross on the third day to show his class.
Others in the category that showed promise is Charya Kannangara 294 and Rajindra Uswatte 299 aggregate gross score over three rounds.
The prize distribution was held among a large gathering with the main prizes being given by General Manager Shung Tian Shing of Ceylon Agro Industries – Prima Group and Sajith Gunaratne, Senior Business/ marketing Manager of Prima Group promoters of Sunrise bread representing the sponsor. Dian Jayasuriya Vice President of the Sri Lanka Golf Union the organisors of the tournament gave away the other awards.
