Lasith Lakshan (7/26) and Dileep Tharaka (3/40) turned tables on Sri Devananda College’s first innings lead to give St. Thomas’ College Matara a four wicket win in their under 19 cricket match played at the Uyanwatte stadium last weekend.
STC Matara invited the visitors to take first lease of the alien turf wicket and did well to restrict them to 137 runs. Lasith Lakshan (5/31) and Dileep Tharaka (4/29) shared the wickets. Udara Mendis scored 41 runs. The home team were in for a shock when Lahiru Prasanka (4/9) and Chathura Dhananjaya (3/10) spun them out for 98 runs in 29.2 overs. Nevindu Udesh was the only batsman to counter the Devananda spin scoring 46 runs.
The Thomian grit prevailed and Lasith (7/26) and Dileep (3/40) were able to see an end to the Sri Devananda second innings for 71 runs. Nimesh Mendis scored 21runs.
It was no easy task for the Thomians’ to score the 111 runs needed for victory which they finally did with four wickets to spare. Lasith did well with the bat scoring 58 runs off 72 balls (six boundaries and two sixes).
