Lee holds his lead in Most Popular Schoolboy Ruggerite competition

As the two winged competitions of Singer-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Ruggerite of the Year and Most Popular Rugby Team of the Year 2017 reaches the eighth week, star player Avishka Lee, the Wesley College three-quarter, continues to lead the players’ list with 2559 votes.

Lee added 117 to his existing count as his tally moves further away. Second in line is Sasindu Rathnaweera of Ananda College. Sasindu added a further 122 votes to push his tally to 660 while Sumudu Rankothge, the Isipathana College three-quarter, stands in third with 483 votes. Ovin Askey of Royal College is at fourth while Yuzraan Lantra of Zahira College remains at fifth.

In the team competition, Lee’s side Wesley has 2556 votes while Ananda and Isipathana changed places from last week. Ananda takes over the second position while Isipathana drops a place to third. 

The competitions, which enable readers to vote for their preferred school rugby player of the ongoing Singer Schools Division I Rugby League Championship 2017, will run until 30 July.

From 23 April, the Sunday Times, along with Wijeya Newspapers publications – Daily Mirror, Daily Lankadeepa and Ada – will publish coupons for 15 continuous weeks, numbered for each week from 1 to 15 with the deadline set on Thursdays of each week. There is a total of 31 players in the list but the names of those who are with 30 and above votes will be published from this week.
