Lyceum International School Nugegoda’s cagers came up with a superlative performance to beat Lyceum Wattala 61-55 and end up worthy winners of the All-Island Under 17 Boys’ B Division Basketball Championship, held at St Joseph’s College Colombo.
The final was a closely-contested game with LIS Nugegoda trailing by five points at the end of the first quarter before bouncing back to take a seven-point lead into halftime.
Rushdy Ashroff, who scored 11 points for the winners, was named the Most Valuable Player of the final. His teammate Navina Weerasinghe was the second-highest scorer, chipping in with nine points. Shiek Moulana from Lyceum Nugegoda was adjudged the Best Defensive Player.
