Lyceum Nugegoda wins big at chess championship

In the sixth Inter International Schools Chess Championship 2013 held on 27 and 28 July at Regent International College in Gampaha, Lyceum International School, Nugegoda performed extremely well, winning two championships, two runners-up awards and two second runners-up awards. This is the first time that Lyceum International School, Nugegoda was able to get such good results at an international schools’ chess championship. 12 international schools participated in the championships and a large number of distinguished guests including several principals of international schools graced the awards ceremony. Lyceum Nugegoda’s teams were coached by Thejan Rathnayake, Kokila Punchihewa, Gevin Jayasoma, Sumal Horuwalavithana, Charitha Probodini and the Teachers-in-Charge Gayashan Jayasinghe and Rose Rajapakse. Lyceum International School, Nugegoda won the following events: Under 8 A Team champions, Under 17 A Team champions, Under 10 A Team runners-up, Under 12 A Team runners-up, Under 8 B Team second runners-up and Under 12 B Team third runners-up.
