Lyceum International School Wattala beat St Benedict’s College, Colombo by 13 runs in the finals of the All-Island Under-17 (Division III) cricket tournament, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in Colombo recently.
In the finals Lyceum Wattala posted a total of 270 in 44 overs with St. Benedict’s College only managing 257/7 in 50 overs. This was the first time that Lyceum Wattala was participating in this event. The special award for the Man of the Final was won by Shabiq Ifthary of LIS Wattala.In the semifinals against Galahitiyawa Central College, Lyceum scored 206/4 in 31.1 overs, with their opponents posting 202/9 in their 50 overs. In the quarterfinals they ousted Kekirawa Central College, notching up 276 in 46.1 overs and blitzing Kekirawa Central College for 85 in 21.1 overs. Their pre-quarterfinal opponents were D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo whom they ousted by 71 runs, blasting 273/8 in 50 overs before bundling out D.S for 202 from 45.5 overs.
