Mahaweli Reach inaugural Junior Tennis Championship 2012

The inaugural Junior Tennis Championship organized by the Mahaweli Reach Hotel to promote healthy habits among the youth of the Central Province took place between 5th – 8th April.

It was held under the direction of a veteran of tennis in Kandy Tissa Ratnayake, the Tournament Director.

Over 50 young players between the ages 11 to 19 participated in this tournament with much enthusiasm  displaying great talent and professionalism. The event was open to youth from the Kandy & Matale districts. The highlight of the tournament was that M.R. Naveed. Mohammed from Zahira National School Matale,  triumphed as overall champion winning the triple crowns in the Under 15, Under 17 & Under 19 categories.

The tournament drew to a close on the 8th April after the awards presentation held under the patronage of Jayantha Panabokke, Managing Director, Mahaweli Reach Hotel. Considering the demand for participation and the resounding success of the tournament, the Hotel looks at making it a part of their annual calendar of events thus providing a platform where talented youth of the Central Province could showcase their abilities while enhancing their game.
