Maliban wins Mercantile Cricket Championship 2014

Proving their prowess in the field of cricket, Maliban, the pioneering biscuit manufacturer won the Mercantile Twenty-Twenty League Softball Cricket Championship 2014. The Maliban team won the tournament competing against Nations Trust Bank in the finals. The tournament conducted by the Mercantile Softball Cricket Association, with the participation of 17 teams, was held at the Ceylon German Technical Institute ground. Competing with team spirit to build up their score, Lahiru Dushantha scored 28 runs while both Amila Amaranath and R.A.S. Namal scored 16 runs each. At the end of 20 overs, Maliban was able to reach 119 runs. In their run chase against Maliban, the NTB’s final wicket fell at 19.1 overs, falling short with a score of only 114. In a display of excellent skill and technique, Tharindu Siriwardena was able to get three wickets for 13 runs and Oshan Rasangika took two wickets for 11 runs. Their efforts successfully enabled the Maliban team to limit the NTB score to 114 and emerge as the winners of the Mercantile Twenty-Twenty League Softball Cricket Championship 2014. Tharindu Siriwardena won the Man of the Series Award, while Man of the Final Match Award was presented to Lahiru Dushantha. Maliban’s team of champions who participated at the tournament included, Tharindu Siriwardena (Captain), Dilan Chathuranga (Vice Captain), Suranjith Madushanka, Lahiru Dushantha, Oshan Rasangika, R.A.S. Namal, Amila Prasad, A.M.D. Nuwan, Kumudu Nandika, G.D.P. Sameera, A.S. Lakmal, Gayan Lakshan, M.D. Sandaruwan, Tharindu Dayan, Chamara Rathnayaka and Nirmal Udayanga.
