The surprises began with a motorised Para glider landing precisely on the turf to coincide with the toss. A special Gold Coin was made for the toss, which was to be used in the future Big Matches for the all important toss. The new Big Match logo prominently displayed was another innovation this year. At the Big Match, the Beauty Queens from India on tour in Sri Lanka paraded the SSC grounds while play was in progress, much to the delight of over 29,000 spectators. As one Indian Official remarked, it even surpassed their IPL in unique ways as one of the oldest cricket matches in the world, exceeding all expectations. The Big Match this year has set in motion new trends and innovations with a new dimension, adding further to the existing records of this unique 135 year old unbroken cricket fixture.
