In response to Sri Lanka Cricket’s statement after the meeting of the Ex-Co on Monday, former Vice President K. Mathivanan yesterday issued the following statement. "I have seen a media release issued by Sri Lanka Cricket expressing their disappointment to comments made to media by me. The release states that I have shied away from the responsibilities thrust upon me by the Executive Committee of SLC. I always wanted to play an active role in the cricket affairs of SLC. During Upali Dharmadasa’s tenure in 2012 I was in charge of cricket affairs and I was appointed as the Chairman of District Development and Schools Cricket Committee by the Executive Committee of SLC. In my view I have discharged my duties to the satisfaction of the SLC and the stakeholders who elected me as one of the Vice Presidents with the largest majority. I obtained more than 80% of the votes in this election. According to my conscience I have been a cricket lover. I have played the game at the highest club level and I have assisted many cricketers to best of my ability to further their careers. I know they are very grateful I have also helped clubs, schools and districts to develop their cricket that is due to the love for the game. I am very happy with whatever I have done for the good of cricket. To fulfil the constitutional requirement in having a Vice President to chair the Sponsorship Committee I was appointed, this was however against my wishes as my interest is towards cricket affairs. I have excused myself for these meetings. With regard to the National Development Committee (NDC) chaired by the President Jayantha Dharmadasa there are 17 members of Executive Committee out of 21, in this committee of which I am also a member. I believe they only met once for the past five months to the best of my knowledge. I had personal difficulties and reasons for getting myself excused from meetings due to my wife having to undergo a surgery overseas. It is unfortunate that the public has been misled to paint a picture that my absence from meetings for genuine reasons caused predicament to the Exco. I strongly deny that any statement issued by me with any malicious or misguiding intent on my part as reflected the statement issued by Sri Lanka Cricket". SLC in its statement said the Ex-Co having accepted the resignation was utmost surprise and disappointment relating to certain deplorable comments made to the media by Mathivanan. It said the Ex-Co was disappointed by Mathivanan’s commitment towards his entrusted duties as a Vice President, Chairman of a Sub Committee and a member of the two Cricketing committees due to his lack of presence. SLC’s Ex-Co also expressed grave displeasure towards the perceptively contradicting statements given by the onetime Vice President of SLC which brings forward malicious and misguiding intent on his part.
