The MCA Annual Open Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament sponsored by Citizens Development Business (CDB) will take place on 5, 6 and 7 August.
Sixty MCA affiliated firms have confirmed their participation.
Twelve teams in four groups will play in Tier ‘A’ (turf) and 48 teams in 16 groups will play in Tier ‘B’ (matting). On day one, Saturday, 5 August the turf matches will take place at the P. Sara Oval from 8.30 a.m. onwards The teams: LB Finance (2016 winner), Singer Sri Lanka ‘A’ and MAS Silueta ‘A’ in Group ‘A’; Sampath Bank ‘A’ , MAS Unichela ‘B’ and Peoples Leasing ‘A’ in group ‘B’; DIMO, Commercial Bank ‘A’ and Peoples Leasing ‘B’ in group ‘C’; MAS Unichela ‘A’ Sampath Bank ‘B’ and DHT Cement in group ‘D’.
The matting matches will take place simultaneously at three venues on Saturday, 6 August. At MCA grounds: Janashakthi Insurance ‘A’ (2016 winner), NTB and Stafford Motors ‘B’ in group ‘A’; Media Vision, NDB Bank and MAS Silueta ‘B’ in group ‘B’; sponsors CDB vs. Information and Asia Capital in group ‘C’; LOLC, Union Assurance and Janashakthi ‘B’ in group ‘D’.
At the Thurstan College grounds: Kanrich Finance ‘A’, Ansel Textiles and Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka in group ‘E’; HSBC, Laugfs Holdings and Singer Sri Lanka ‘B’ in group ‘F’; Kanrich Finance ‘B’, Heshan Flexi and Noyon Lanka in group ‘G’; HNB Grameen ‘B’, DPMC and Asiri Hospitals in group ‘H’.
At the Army ‘Sapper’ grounds in Mattegoda: UB Finance ‘B’, The Finance Co. ‘A’ and Pearsons Lanka ‘B’ in group ‘I’; A Baur & Co, Asia Asset Finance and Hirdaramani Group ‘B’ in group ‘J’; Commercial Bank ‘B’, UB Finance ‘A’ and Hayleys Group in Group ‘K’, Hirdaramani ‘A’, Pearson Lanka ‘A’ and The Finance Co. ‘B’ in group ‘L’.
The matting segment will be continued on Sunday, 6 August at Thurstan College Grounds: SriLankan Airlines, Astron Lanka and HNB in group ‘M’; Unilever ‘B’, HNB Grameen ‘A’ and MAS Kreeda ‘A’ in group ‘N’; Assetline Leasing , Maliban Biscuits and Trelleborg Lanka in group ‘O’; Stafford Motors ‘A’ (2016 runners-up), Unilever ‘A’ and MAS Kreeda ‘B’ in group ‘P’.
Both segments of the tournament from the quarterfinals onwards will be worked off on Monday, 7 August (poya day) at the MCA and De Soyza Park, Moratuwa from 8.30 a.m. onwards. Both finals will be played at the MCA grounds – the matting final scheduled around 4.00 p.m. and the turf final around 5.00 p.m. Indeed, it will be three days of glorious cricket, enough and more to fill the belly of cricket-crazy fans - a total of 82 matches.
