The 15th David Pieris Group of Companies sponsored “DPGC” Challenge Trophy – MCA “E” Division 30 Over League Tournament 2017, reached its pre quarterfinal stage with the completion of the last batch of matches last weekend.
The 16 top teams from the six groups advanced to the elimination round.
Thanks to the unbeaten century scored by Aravinda Rajapaksa (110 not out in 79 balls, inclusive of six sixes and 12 fours), Mast Far East managed their single win in the tournament, beating Levers by seven wickets.
Nuwan Tharanga hit a hurricane 104 not out in 64 balls, inclusive of six sixes and 12 fours, as he propelled Virtusa to a five-wicket win over MAS Silueta “B”.
A 132-run opening stand in 86 balls by Prasad Buddhika (86) and Dilshan Rusiru (50) spearheaded Mercantile Investments to a 86-run win over Emerchemie.
The unbroken 132 runs in 73 balls for the fourth wicket between Sandun Sampath (89 not out) and Sagara Upuldeniya (68 not out) enabled Vallibel Finance to post a 40-run win over Bimputh Finance.
Emerchemie NB posted a comfortable seven-wicket win over AIA Insurance riding on a solid 117 runs, second wicket stand in 130 balls, between Migara Panditharatne (71 not out) and Rasindu Madusanka (46).
The best bowling for the weekend came from left arm, leg spinner, Athula Rajapaksa (6-1-27-5), whose effort gave Softlogic Finance a 52-run win over CW Mackie.
The pre quarter finals will be worked off this weekend, as follows:
