It was a proud moment for the Mc Larens shuttlers as they recorded an emphatic win at the recently concluded Western Province Badminton tournament at the S. Thomas’s Sports complex, Mt. Lavinia.
Destiny found its archrivals under APonso BC at the finals of the Western Province Badminton Tournament and the Mc Larens shuttlers were able to gracefully regain their title of being the champions with a bang, commencing 2016 clinching both the men’s and women’s titles.
Mc Larens walked away with the most prestigious trophies of the tournament by becoming the champions of both the men’s and women’s A division titles, whilst also winning the Women’s B Division championship and placing runners up at the veterans event and by placing as 3rd place of the Men’s C Division.
The Men’s A Division champion team consisted of Navin Perera (Captain), Thisara Nimmika, Sachin Dias, Udara Nayanajith, Ajith Upendra, C.L. Homer, Amila Yatapahana. The Women’s A Division Champions comprising Achini Rathnasiri, Thilini Hendahewa Amali Amarasinghe, Ilmee De Silva and the Women’s B Division Champions, Ruvini Rathnasiri and Ishara Dias.
The Men’s Veterans runner up includes Rohan De Silva, Group Chairman of McLarens, as well as C.L. Homer, Mohan Wijesinghe and Kalum Katapearachchi. Finally, the Men’s C team had Mahesh Prabath, Chamath Dilhan, Sumith Silva, Rohana Wickramaarachchi,
The Mc Larens Shuttlers showed incredible perseverance, character and have made their club extremely proud by representing the values of their club through all the stages of the tournament. Facing and triumphing over the tough competition against several nationally-ranked players from the many participating clubs is a testament to the McLarens Sports Club and its team members.
Pure skill, resolve, team spirit and sheer hard work carried the teams through their arduous matches, leading to their victories and accolades.
