McLarens Group secure badminton doubles prize

‘A’ Division shuttlers registered a major sporting milestone by clinching the Grand Slam of the 4th Mercantile Badminton Association Inter-Firm Team Doubles Championship 2014, which was worked off at the S. Thomas’ College indoor sports complex in Mount Lavinia.

In the lead-up to the tournament, the team was handicapped due to the unavailability of national champion Niluka Karunarathne, who was overseas. Despite the setback, the company’s shuttlers proved their might and determination as they beat Sampath Bank to reach the finals. In the grand finals they were up against HNB who were the hot favorites to clinch the title.

However, a determined team led by Navin Perera and guided by Rohan De Silva, broke the odds and surprised everyone by winning the title.
