McLarens races ahead with Suzuki Maruti at Pannala

Pannala race track played host to the third race meet of a series aimed at taking Sri Lankan motor sport to a higher level by setting the stage for regular competitions throughout the year.

The race meet held on 27 May at the Pannala track featured two of the highlights of the racing calendar in the shape of the Speed Championship Series and McLarens Alto K10 Cup.

These races, which have become equally popular among race drivers and motor sport enthusiasts, are promoted and sponsored by McLarens Holdings. They showcase McLarens Formula 1300 cars powered by Suzuki Maruti engines and Suzuki Maruti Alto K 10 cars driven by some of Sri Lanka’s most recognisable race drivers and emerging talents.

A driver earmarked for greatness, Rumesh Rajakulendran streaked ahead in the Speed Championship hotly pursued by Uvaim Mohamed Raees with Chandima  Gunaratne finishing third in this hotly contested event.

The McLarens Alto K10 Cup, which brings to life Sri Lanka’s first ever manufacturer-backed ‘One Make’ Race Series featuring five races with 10 identical brand new Suzuki Maruti Alto K10 production cars attracted veteran drivers and emerging talents who fought out the finish racing wheel to wheel against each other.

Praveen Madugalle emerged the winner with Zulfi Sulaiman and Rohan De Silva fighting out the other two podium finishes.
