Medhira clinches U14 Junior Nationals Championships title

Medhira Samarasinghe emerged champion of the girls under-14 age category beating Rukshika Wijesuriya 6-3 6-1 at the 98th Junior Nationals Championships worked off at the SLTA hard courts in Greenpath yesterday.

Medhira a product of Ladies College, Colombo and coached by Shalini de Silva had earlier won the Under 10 and 12 girls Junior Nationals Titles in 2009 and 2011 respectively. She represented Sri Lanka this year at the World Junior’s Asia Oceania ITF Tennis Competition 2013 held in Kuching Malaysia in March and April. She was also selected for the ITF Touring Team for the ITF Asia 14 and Under Development Championships 2013 Division 1 held at Rizal Memorial Tennis Centre Manila in March 2013 after qualifying at the ITF Asia 14 and Under Development Championships 2013 Division 2 held in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam in January 2013.
