The touring Melbourne Bushrangers youth cricket team recorded two consecutive wins in games played last Saturday and Monday respectively.
In the game against Trinity College Under 15’s at the Asgiriya Stadium, Melbourne Bushrangers won by four wickets. Trinity batting first, made 163 for 7 in 40 overs with skipper Chathura Jayasundera hitting 63 not out. Sam James captured 3 for 33, EjaazAlavi 2 for 13 and Ned Taylor 2 for 34.
In reply, Melbourne Bushrangers passed the Trinity score and batted on for 40 overs to reach 173 for 6 wickets. Jack Rudd scored his second 50 on tour making 56 before retiring and skipper Donovan Pell scored 38.
In their next game the Melbourne Bushrangers beat the North Central Province, under 17’s by 170 runs at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium. Batting first, Melbourne Bushrangers amassed 325 for two in 50 overs with Jayden Borg, Donovan Pell and Nishal Perera all making fifties and retiring. Bill Jenkin scored 43 not out, Seamus Feery 29 not out and EjaazAlavi 28.
North Central Province folded up for 155 in the 40th over with Piyal Sandaruwan making 43 and skipper Nilanka Manoj scoring 41. Ned Taylor, Nishal Perera and Ejaaz Alavi captured two wickets each.
The touring team now move to Colombo for the last leg of their tour where they will play 2 one dayer’s against St. Peters seven St. Joseph’s and 2 T20’s against Thurstan and CCC Academy.
