Mercantile Volleyball tournament 2012 finals on Sunday

The finals of the Mercantile Volleyball tournament 2012 will be held on Sunday 16 December, at the Youth Services indoor stadium, Maharagama. The third place matches will also be played on the same day at the same venue.

The response to this year’s tournament was most encouraging, with 44 Men and 21 Women taking part. A highlight of the tournament was that most of the teams were from the textile industry.

The finals will kick off with the women’s third place finals between MAS Linea Aqua (Kapugoda) and Brandix Intimate Apparel (Welisara). It will be followed by the men’s game to decide on the third place winner. The finals will be between Sumithra Hasalaka Sports Club and Textured Jersey Lanka.

The women’s final to be played between MAS Casualline (Mawathagama) and Brandix Casual ware (Redigama) is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The climax will be the men’s final when, MAS Active Contourline (Kandy) meets Brandix Intimate Apparel (Welisara) at 3:00 p.m.

The award ceremony will be held immediately after the finals at the Youth Centre. Trophies and cash prizes will be presented to the winners, runners-up and best player under each category (men and women).

This year’s tournament was organised by the Mercantile Volleyball Association (MVA) and it was open for both men and women with no restrictions imposed on the number of teams participating from a single organisation.
