Migara of Lyceum Wattala wins Scrabble Masters Plate Division Championship

The Sri Lanka Masters Scrabble Tournament 2013 organised by the Sri Lanka Scrabble League (SLSL) is played amongst the country’s highest rated 16 players in two divisions. The top eight players play in the Cup Division and the next eight players play  in the Plate Division. Migara Jayasinghe of Lyceum International School, Wattala became the Champion in the Plate Division. At 13 years, Migara is the youngest to qualify for the Sri Lanka Masters Tournament. On his way to winning the title, Migara beat Kandhan Mahendran in the Quarter-Finals (by 4 games to 3), Wimal Fernando in the Semi-Finals (by 6 games to 3) and Kevin Ketagoda in the Finals (by 6 games to 2). In addition, Migara won the trophy for the Highest Rated Junior (Under-18) Player (Rating 1223) for the year 2012/13 from the SLSL. He is also the current All-Island Junior (Under-18) Champion.
