At the recently concluded 24th Annual Ritzbury Junior National Squash Championship, defending champion Ravindu Laksiri claimed the boys under 19 ‘Naveen Piyatissa challenge trophy’ while Mihiliya Methsarani, also the defending champion, won the girls under 19 ‘Nirasha Guruge challenge trophy’.
Raveen Nanayakkara and Wasundara Suwaris became the outstanding male and female players of the tournament respectively. The prize giving was held under the patronage of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales Nandana Wickramage.
Speaking at the prize giving, Wickramage noted, “Ritzbury is proud to sponsor the Junior Squash Nationals for the 6th consecutive year. It is our pleasure to give children the opportunity to compete at their fullest potential. The Junior Nationals serves as a stepping stone for young squash players to represent Sri Lanka at international tournaments.” “The Ritzbury sponsorship was much appreciated over the past week. The finals in all age groups were very competitive, the matches went into four and five sets,” commented SLSF President Commodore Palitha Weerasinghe.
The Ritzbury Junior National Squash Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation (SLSF) was held from 5 to 12 October at the Tamil Union Sports Complex.
