Millennium IT bags FITIC Cricket Championship 2014

Millennium IT, a key player in the IT/BPO services in Sri Lanka, won the championship trophy at the recently concluded FITIS cricket carnival 2014 held at P Sara grounds. The 1st runner-up of the tournament was Power Net Ltd. and the 2nd runner-up was BCS Regional Office. The Plate Award was won by IronOne Technologies Ltd.
FITIS cricket carnival is an annual event organised by the Federation of Information Technology Sri Lanka (FITIS) to promote sportsmanship and harmony among the companies engaged in the IT industry in the country. This year’s cricket carnival was the maiden event came under the leadership of the newly elected FITIS President Chinthaka Wijewickrama, a pioneer in the industry.
According to the organisers, the event is very popular among the ICT industry and more than 120 teams have applied representing various ICT companies and over 3,000 visitors were seen at the ground. It was a more glamorous event with ICT Queen Contest, magic show for kids and DJ music giving greater enjoyment for the visitors and participants this time around as another step taken to unite the industry and to motivate the employees as well as their loved ones.
“Last year, 96 companies took part in this annual event, which is expected to turn a new leaf with a considerable increase in partaking in 2013. The purpose of this tournament is to develop and to reinforce inter relationship among the members and to provide some much needed entertainment through ICT queen contest, magic shows for kids, papare bands and a grand musical show adding the carnival atmosphere to the full-day event,” said Wijewickrama.
This year’s cricket carnival was sponsored by 3M Lanka Ltd., Avian Technologies Ltd., Singer Sri Lanka PLC, Samson IT Ltd., SALA Enterprises, FARH Tech Ltd., ASUS Global Ltd., and BCS Regional Office.
FITIS was established in 1996 with the purpose of giving a much needed focal point for the ICT industry in the island. During the past 16 years, it has successfully implemented many fruitful programs, which have been successfully carried out to enhance ICT usage and to create a continual growth in the employment opportunities available with the ICT sector.
FITIS membership is comprised of several chapters; Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry (SLASI), Sri Lanka Computer Vendors’ Association (SLCVA), Association of Computer Training Organisations (ACTOS), Licensed Internet Service Providers Association (LISPA), and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
