Milo Football Tournament Finals gather crowd of nearly 7,000 in Jaffna

A crowd of nearly 7,000 witnessed St. Mary’s College emerge champions over St. Anthony’s College at the Milo Football Tournament Finals held at the Jaffna Duraiappa Stadium held earlier on this week.
As Jaffna’s most anticipated and popular sporting event, the football tournament this year brought together 24 teams competing for the championship title, with the grand culmination held on 14 December 2013. St. Mary’s College captained by Mariyadas Nirojan and St. Anthony’s College, captained by B. Gajanan fiercely competed for the ultimate title, with the final score at 2 – 0 in St. Mary’s favour.
Through its Milo brand, Nestlé Lanka has been committed to developing school sports in the country for over twenty years. The company commenced its support of Sri Lankan sports with sponsorships of football tournaments in the 1990s and has since then continued to be an energetic partner in supporting different sporting events such as swimming, cricket, netball, athletics and rugby under its much loved chocolate malt beverage brand Milo.
This is the first time however that the brand ventured into the Northern region to sponsor a football tournament and the final outcome saw immense participation from the residents of Jaffna and of its vicinity, who gathered in masses to witness the final game of the Milo Football Tournament.
