The schools rugby finale tournament will take place starting today when the Sri Lanka Schools section (SSRFA) along with Nestle will conduct the Schools Under-20 Milo Trophy which will be worked off at the Royal Sports Complex under three categories. Kingswood pulled out at the last moment due to injury worries for their players. Their place will be filled by Joes who will lock horns with Royal in one of the quarter final encounters.
For the President’s Trophy, the main segment Isipathana, Thurstan, St. Peter’s, Science, Royal, St. Josephs, Trinity and Wesley will lock horns. Defending champions Wesley will meet last year’s finalist Trinity in one of the important clashes.
Trinity already having won the Bradby Shield, Canon De Saram and Dennis Perera Trophy and remain as the runner-up in the schools league to Isipathana. Meanwhile in the league, Trinity beat Wesley 15-9 at Pallekelle. Trinity should have things their way to go forward to the semi final clash very likely against their traditional rivals Royal.
Meanwhile Isipathana should not have any difficulties overcoming their traditional rivals Thurstan in the first quarter final. While the Peterites should have thing their way against Science College. The third quarter final will be worked off between Royal and the Joes (who were selected at the last moment due to Kingswood pulling out citing injuries).
Meanwhile C.W.W. Kannangara, St. Sylvester’s, Prince of Wales, Vidyartha, Dharmaraja, Lalith Athulathmudali MV, Mahanama and Ananda will battle it out in the premier segment.
In the Chairman’s Trophy Nalanda, St. Anne’s, Piliyandala MV, Nugawela Central, St. John’s Nugegoda, Maliyadeva, St. Benedicts and Royal Panadura will lock horns
