Mixed Indian boxing to compete in Sri Lanka

NEW DELHI (PTI): A seven-member Indian boxing team comprising of three women and four men left yesterday for a tournament against Sri Lanka.

The contest, being organised by Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, will be held in Colombo on Saturday.

The Indian Amateur Boxing Federation has decided to field youth boxers for the event.

Coach-in-charge of the Youth Women Indian boxing team IV Roa, who will be accompanying the team said, “This is a fresh batch of boxers with not much international experience and we intend to provide them ample exposure through such events.

“This will be a good tournament for our youth boxers and will act as a fine preparatory event for the World Championships and the Asian Championships for the women participants.”

The squad

Women: Pooja Tokas (48 Kg), Shvinder Kaur Sidhu (51 Kg), Priya (54 Kg)

Men: Amit (49 Kg), Silambarasan Anbazhagan (52 Kg), Abhay Singh (56 Kg), Sunil (60 Kg).
