More prizes at Mercantile Volleyball tournament 2013

Additional prizes are being offered to the winners of this year’s mercantile volleyball tournament which will be held in August/September 2013. The preliminary rounds will be held on 10 and 11 August and the final matches on 08 September. The Mercantile Volleyball Association (MVA) is offering cash prizes to the tune of over 1.2 million rupees and trophies to winners of the Super League and A division in the Men’s & Women’s categories. The tournament is open for both men and women with no restrictions imposed on the number of teams participating from a single organisation. MVA President Rohan Somawansa says that while the country’s national game, volleyball is extremely popular among the youth, the tournament is being organised as an attempt to provide an opportunity for those in the mercantile sector to engage in an extracurricular activity and bringing the sport closer to the hearts of young associates. The tournament will also help to bridge the gap between talented volleyball clubs and the corporate organisations in picking young talent players. The Maharagama Youth Centre will be the venue of the tournament which will be conducted on a knockout basis. The semi-finals and the final will be played on 08 September at the same venue The award ceremony will be held immediately after the finals also at the Youth Centre. The prizes on offer are as follows: Super League Men: 1st Place Rs. 150,000 and Trophy 2nd Place Rs. 100,000 and Trophy 3rd Place Rs. 50,000 Women: 1st  Place Rs. 100,000 and Trophy 2nd Place Rs. 50,000 and Trophy 3rd Place Rs. 25,000 and Trophy Best Player (Men & Women): Rs. 10,000 per player A Division Men: 1st Place Rs. 80,000 and Trophy 2nd Place Rs. 40,000 and Trophy 3rd Place Rs. 25,000 and Trophy Women: 1st Place Rs. 80,000 and Trophy 2nd Place Rs. 40,000 and Trophy 3rd Place Rs. 25,000 and Trophy Best Player (Men & Women): Rs. 10,000 per player The Mercantile Volleyball Association (MVA) is an affiliated body of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation. Mercantile volleyball has been identified as a very important sport for corporate organisations to build up a team culture with no barriers among employees. It will also be a great opportunity for the employees in the Mercantile Sector to showcase their talents and expose hidden potential.
