Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings to win IPL

Mumbai Indians last night clinched the 2013 Indian Premier League trophy by beating the much fancied Chennai Super Kings at a packed Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Mumbai Indians who won the toss chose to bat but struggled at the start of their innings losing three wickets for 16 runs. However some spirited batting in the middle order helped Mumbai Indians to reach a fighting score of 148 with the loss of nine wickets.

Kieron Pollard scored a fighting unbeaten 60 with 32 balls in an innings studded with three sixers and seven fours. A.T. Rayadu scored 37 and K.D. Karthik chipped in with 21.

Dwayne Bravo bowled well for Chennai Super Kings taking four for 42 whilst J.A. Morkel took two for 12.

In their chase Chennai Indian began miserably losing three wickets for mere three runs with Lasith Malinga being the main destroyer taking the first two wickets. At one stage Chennai Super Kings were struggling 50 for six.

CSK captain Dhoni launched a spirited and careful effort towards the end as the last man standing, contributing a valuable half century the chase but couldn’t keep up with the steep asking rate ending up with a final score of 125 for nine wickets.

Lasith Malinga, Mitchell Johnson and Harbhajan Singh took two wickets apiece to break the back of the CSK batting.
