Munchee extends a hand to Trinity College Rugby

Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), Sri Lanka’s largest Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) conglomerate, also a regular sponsor of school level sports in Sri Lanka, has taken another step in continuing its commitment to school level sports. 

For the first time Munchee, the No.1 biscuit brand in Sri Lanka, is supporting the game of Rugby by backing the promising Trinity College Rugby team for their 2016 season. 

Being one of the top schools in the island, Trinity College Kandy, founded in 1872, inherits a rich history and a prominent rugby tradition. With the aim of uplifting sports in Sri Lanka at the school level, Munchee has stepped forward for the first time to sponsor the Trinity School Rugby team for the 2016 season.

Commenting on the contribution to Trinity’s much loved rugby, Group General Manager – Marketing of the Associate sponsor of the team Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Theja Peiris, stated the following: “We are happy to join hands with Trinity College, Kandy as the Associate Sponsor of the Trinity Rugby team, for the 2016 season. Trinity College has a rich heritage among rugby playing schools in Sri Lanka. Munchee as the No.1 biscuit brand in Sri Lanka wishes to extend its support to further strengthen the game of rugby at Trinity College and to uphold the legacy of school Rugby.”

“We will not consider this as yet more financial assistance, but this approach will lead to a long lasting and a prolific liaison. Going beyond a sponsorship we are honoured to back our young blood in the game,” she further added.

Rohan Abayakoon, Chairman of the college’s association, the Old Trinitian’s Rugby Scrummage (OTRS) which manages rugby across all age groups, also acknowledged Munchee for their immense support for the upliftment of the ‘Trinity Rugby’ brand. 

“Munchee has been at the forefront of most school level sports by backing our young sports stars. We are grateful for their generous sponsorship of our team and honoured to have Munchee, the No: 1 biscuit brand, on board as the Associate Sponsor of the Trinity Rugby 2016 season. We wish to continue this partnership and hope Munchee would be with us in future games as well,” stated Abayakoon.

Sports being integrated into the company’s core CSR ethos, Munchee will continue to power sport at school level supporting the upkeep of the field.
