Munchee has once again come forward to sponsor the National Volleyball Championship organised annually by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation. This is the seventh consecutive time that Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., has extended its sponsorship for this national event.
Over the past six years, volleyball, as the national sport, has been able to achieve tremendous progress through the national championship, under the sponsorship of Munchee. It is noteworthy to mention that under Munchee’s sponsorship, volleyball has been able to get not only financial support but also other means of assistance such as novel promotional activities to promote the game and bring it closer to the people.
For instance, during the first year of Munchee’s sponsorship, a promotional campaign was organised to collect two million signatures from volleyball fans to symbolise their support for the game. As a result of the high awareness raised and image created by this campaign, the number of teams that participated in the National Volleyball Championship increased by 300% in that year.
Since then, participation has continuously grown and currently, an average of over 4,000 teams takes part in the Munchee National Volleyball Championship. In comparison with Munchee’s pre-sponsorship period, the participation shows a five-fold increase.
Commenting on Munchee’s sponsorship, Minister Dilan Perera, President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, said that under the Munchee’s sponsorship, the pride of volleyball has been elevated to greater heights, which has led to an awakening of the game, especially in the rural areas. This is evident by the ever increasing number of participating teams every year, emphasised Minister Perera.
As a leading local business enterprise, Munchee’s objective by extending the sponsorship for the National Volleyball Championship is to assist and contribute toward the growth of country’s national game – volleyball, explained Nandana Wickramage, Group Director, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. He further said that it is in line with CBL’s corporate social responsibility policy.
This year too, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., through its flagship brand Munchee, has committed to extend its maximum support to the National Volleyball Federation in its efforts to uplift the game.
CBL’s Group Director also hopes that the Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2012/13 will attract a record number of teams from all over the country.
The support extended by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. to sports as a corporate spreads over a wide arena which includes cricket, football, squash, athletics and many more. As such, the company has become one of the leading corporates in the country which supports the development and the upliftment of sports.
