Munchee today announced that it will once again sponsor the National Volleyball Championship annually organised by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation. This is the ninth occasion that Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited, extends its sponsorship for this national event.
The tournament is scheduled to commence on 1 October and will be conducted in four categories for men and women, played at two levels – Novices and Super League. The finals of the Munchee National Volley Ball Championship 2016 is schedule to be held on 29 November at the at the Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium, Maharagama.
During the past nine years, volleyball, as the national game, has been able to achieve tremendous progress through the national championship which is under the sponsorship of Munchee.
During the first year of Munchee sponsorship, a promotional campaign was organised to collect two million signatures from volleyball fans to symbolise their support towards the game. As a result of the high awareness and imagery created by this campaign, the number of teams that participated in the National Volleyball Championship was increased by 300% in the same year.
During the past nine years, participation has continuously grown and currently an average of over 4,000 teams take part in the Munchee National Volleyball Championship. In comparison with Munchee’s pre Sponsorship period, the participation shows a fivefold increase.
Commenting on the Munchee sponsorship, President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation W. G. S. Erandika said that the pride of volleyball has been elevated to a greater height and in return the country had experienced an awakening of the game, especially in rural areas. This is evident by the participation of an ever-increasing number of teams every year.
“As a leading local business conglomerate, our objective of extending our continued sponsorship for the Munchee National Volleyball Championship is to assist and contribute toward the growth of volleyball,” Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. Group General Manager – Marketing Theja Peiris said. She further stated that it is in line with CBL’s corporate social responsibility policy.
“This year too Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., through its flagship brand Munchee, has committed to extend its maximum support to the National Volleyball Federation in their effort to uplift the game.” The CBL Group GM, expressing her hopes, said that the Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2016 would also attract a record number of teams from all over the country.
The support extended by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. for sports spreads over a wide arena which includes cricket, football, squash, athletics and many more. As such, the company has become one of the leading corporates in the country which supports the development and upliftment of sports.
