Andy Murray beat Gilles Muller 6-4 6-3 6-1 to win Great Britain’s Davis Cup tie against Luxembourg in Glasgow.

Murray served excellently throughout the match, losing just four points of the 56 points served. The British number one also held serve to love 10 times and went on a 21 point consecutive winning streak on his serve during the match.

The first set was a very close affair despite Murray getting the break in the third game. The Luxemburger made Murray fight for every point on the his own serve but failed to get more than two points on the Murray serve during the first set.

The Brit held his nerve to wrap up the opening set 6-4 in a convincing manner.

The second set score was more convincing than that of the first but it was Murray who was given the run-around by the World number 81. Muller’s ground strokes were finding the angles but they failed to beat the very fit Murray who did not give up on a single point. And despite being made run from left to right throughout the majority of the second set, it was Murray who broke in the fifth and ninth games to take the set 6-3.

It was evident to see that Muller’s resolve was broke from there on in and the home favourite raced away with the third set.

The Scot broke twice on his way to a 5-0 lead before Muller managed to pull one game back – saving the bagel.

Fittingly, the World number four held his final service game to love to seal the tie against Luxembourg.

James Ward’s singles match against Laurent Bram, who lost 6-0 6-0 6-0 to Andy Murray on Friday, is now a dead rubber.

After the game an emotional Murray was keen to express his delight at being able to play back in his native Scotland, he said: “It’s been so much fun this week. I’ve known the team for a long time so it was very special to be here with them. The support this week has been great. It’s been packed every day. I don’t get chance to come back to Scotland very often so it’s nice to be here.”
