National fencing team returns with top success at South Asian championships

Sri Lanka national fencing team won two awards (overall championship-Runner’s up and overall championship, Women’s category-Runners Up) at the 2nd South Asian Fencing Championships held in India.

They also bagged 10 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals.

 

The championships were held at the Kolta Vijay Bhaskar Reddy Stadium, Hyderabad. This event was organized by the Fencing Association on Andhra Pradesh under the auspices of South Asian Fencing Federation and the Fencing Association of India. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka were the participating countries. India won championship of the 2nd South Asian Fencing Championship.

 Niranjala Weerarathne, Piyumi Krishanthi and Sandeepa Sandamali won 9 silver medals for women’s Foil, Epee and Sabre events. Manjula Fernando, Sadesh Chandana, Suresh Sudharshana and Priyantha Pathirana won 4 silver medals for Men’s Saber event. Piyumi Krishanthi won bronze medal for individual women’s Epee event.
