Nations Trust Bank “A” maintains unbeaten status

In a quarter final where the bowlers were put to the sword, over 600 runs scored, inclusive of 02 centurions and 03 half centurions. Nations Trust Bank “A” maintained their unbeaten status scoring a 31 runs win over J.L.M. Morison in the 06th “BMW/Hyundai” Trophy – MCA “C” Division 50 Over League Tournament 2017, which continued with the quarter finals last weekend. 

1st QF – The 02 centurions were Tharindu Ariyawansa from NTB “A” and Ahamed Shakeel from JLM; the half tons came from Sajith Perera and Tharindu Amaratunga for NTB “A” Gayanga Kahavita for JLM. 

NTB batted first and scored 339 for 8 in 50-Overs riding on the sparkling 121 runs, 2nd wicket stand in 96 balls between Tharindu Ariyawansa (108 in 73 balls, inclusive of 02 sixes and 15 fours ) and Sajith Perera (78).

Under dogs, JLM bravely took up the challenge of scoring 340 runs in 50-overs, with opener, Ahamed Shakeel keeping the momentum of the game with a responsible 138 in 120 balls, inclusive of 03 sixes and 13 fours, well supported by Gayanga Kahavita (55) and K. Silva (42) 

Tharinda Amaratunga, who bolstered the bankers innings with a bright 74 runs, earlier on, put the brakes on JLM batting with a good spell of bowling – 10-55-4, thus restricting them to 308 for 7 in 50 overs. 

2nd QF – Anura Dias figured prominently for Commercial Credit & Finance “B” with a good double, 60 runs and 3 for 18 in their win against Peoples Leasing by 70 runs. 

3rd QF – Debutants, DHT Cement came down heavily on LB Finance “B” with a crushing 07 wickets win; LBF shot out 77 runs in 21.1 overs as leg spinner, Shaluka Silva poured the concrete with an incredible spell of 7-2-21-5; DHT had some batting practice facing 28 overs to reach their target of 78 for 3. 

4th QF – A very useful 106 runs partnership in 104 balls for the 3rd wicket by Aruna Henrickson (76) and S. Jamion (47) enabled the unbeaten Standard Chartered Bank to score a well-earned 37 runs win over Colombo Dockyard.

The 1st Semi-final between Nations Trust Bank “A” Vs. Commercial Credit & Finance “B” was played on Wednesday, 15 February at the MCA Grounds; the 2nd Semi Final between Standard Chartered Bank and DHT Cement will take place on Saturday, 18 February at the MCA Grounds.
