Defending inter-club league rugby champions Navy SC, led by Yoshitha Rajapaksa, look set for the kill this season as they outclassed Police SC, to register their second win and remain unbeaten.
CR & FC too continued their unbeaten run when they toppled their traditional rivals Havelocks SC 17-12 in a close battle.
Navy went on to register a runaway 64-24 win, scoring 10 tries while Police SC replied with four. Navy will be at full strength when they get their star player, Fijian Sevens star Stefano Cacakloa back in a couple of days’ time for their important clash against CR & FC next weekend.
Navy’s closest rival Kandy SC will travel down to Colombo for two continuous weeks. The Red Shirts are making a major comeback in club rugby with the return of Imthisam Marrikar as their head coach.
Marrikar, who is considered to be one of the best coaches in the country, is all out to take the Longdon Place club to the top this season. Despite two of their players being yellow carded, CR & FC managed to prevent their traditional rivals from scoring in the last 10 minutes of the game. The former Trinity and Up-Country player Kanchana Ramanayake was outstanding. So far in the league, Sri Lanka Air Force and Police SC have suffered two losses while Havies and CH & FC have registered one win each.
