NDB RCGC Inter-school Golf Championship tees-off on 26 July

NDB together with the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) will host this year’s annual ‘Inter-School Golf Championship’ on Saturday, 26 July 2014 at the RCGC. This year’s tournament will be organised by S. Thomas’ Preparatory School. Commenting on the tournament, head of the organising committee Sanjiv Vairavanathan said, “We are excited to organise the 2nd RCGC – Inter-School Alumni Golf Tournament in association with NDB. The tournament will be played on a five ball stable ford basis and will feature more than 240 Golfers from 22 schools including five girls school from all over Sri Lanka. This championship will be organised under a big match theme. The schools participating are:

The opportunity of hosting this event rotates amongst the respective school alumni on a yearly basis. Therefore, we are glad to play the lead role in this year’s tournament which is of a unique nature and is being conducted for the second time in the history of golf in Sri Lanka. This will continue to be a much anticipated annual club event and has the potential of becoming an annual board event as well.” Commenting on the partnership, NDB Chief Operating Officer Indrajit Wickramasinghe said, “We are proud to partner RCGC to bring together one of the most celebrated golfing events of the year. This is the only dedicated inter-school Golf tournament in the country and with this partnership we hope to contribute towards popularisation of the game. Apart from the fantastic golfing opportunity, the tournament is known to be the most lucrative social golfing event of the year; and it will bring together the crème of the business and golfing circles in Colombo.  Therefore, we believe that this partnership would enable us to present yet another stimulating experience to our Privilege Select Banking clientele.” For the first time in Sri Lanka, ‘Dons Golf’ in association with the Royal Colombo Golf Club inaugurated the ‘RCGC Inter-School Golf Championship’ in 2013. The key focus of this event was to kick-start a much needed inter-school tournament that has always had a significant demand. In its second consecutive running this year, the inter-school golf tournament has soon become one of the most desirable events in Colombo’s golfing calendar. Men, women and juniors with a club handicap are invited to contest in this tournament for prestigious golfing awards coupled with a host of attractive rewards and gifts. The event will be conducted in a ‘Big Match’ style atmosphere, with a live band and entertainment features keeping the participants enthused throughout the day. The tournament will conclude with the award ceremony which will be followed by an evening of cocktails. Entries are now open and registrations made at RCGC will be accepted on first-come basis.
