Nepal wins all four practice matches in Sri Lanka

Nepal performed magnificently in its practice matches in their Sri Lanka tour, winning all the four practice matches, prior to the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. In its last practice match on Thursday, Nepal defeated Bloomfield Sports Club by 16 runs to secure their fourth consecutive victory in Sri Lanka tour. Bloomfield was restricted just to 230 runs in 49.4 overs as it was chasing the target of 247 runs set by Nepal. In the first inning,

Nepal scored total 246 runs with the loss of eight wickets in allotted 50 overs. Paras Khadka contributed highest 62 runs, Subash Khakurel 41 runs and Sarad Vesawkar 36 runs. Emerging player Sompal Kami who got chance to play only one practice match claimed three wickets while Basanta Regmi took two wickets. Nepal had thrashed Colts Cricket Club by four wickets in its first practice match, Moors Sports Club by 106 runs in the second and Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club by two wickets in the third practice match. Nepali national team had left for Sri Lanka on 17 December for 10 days tour to practice for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to be held in New Zealand from 13 January to 1 February, 2014. In the qualifiers, Nepal has been drawn alongside Scotland, UAE, Canada and Hong Kong in Group A. Group B comprises Netherlands, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Kenya, Namibia and Uganda. These nations have qualified to this round through the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Divisions. Nepal will take on UAE in its inaugural match on 13 January, Scotland on 16 January, Hong Kong on 19 January and Canada on 21 January. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage while the top two finalists from the Super Six stage will qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup scheduled to begin on 14 February in Australia and New Zealand.
