Picking the national team is no easy task, so the newly elected selectors are eager to make no mistakes and have the best available players wearing the Sri Lankan Cap.
The newly elected selectors of SLC headed by its Chairman Sanath Jayasuriya together with the Secretary of SLC Nishantha Ranatunga, met for the first time the National Coaches, Physio’s & the Match Referees of SLC, and all the contracted players of SLC.
The Selectors first spoke to Sri Lanka team’s Batting coach Marvan Atapattu, Bowling coach Champaka Ramanayaka and fielding coach Ruwan Kalpage.
After the first meeting ended, the selectors had discussions with all the trainers and physio’s of SLC. At this Meeting it was outlined by the Selectors that all players should be able to be at their best in all 3 departments of the game. Fitness & commitment on training would be an area that they are to focus on and have the players free of injury
The Selectors also spoke to all the coaches employed by SLC in their coaching Division headed by Jerome Jayaratne.
The Selectors went on to meet & discussed matters with all SLC match referees. The Selectors told them that they see all matches and are in the best position to identify talent. They were requested to give them with information on noteworthy players.
At a meeting with the SLC contracted players, the selectors mentioned that their objective of being appointed as selectors is to do their best for the country and nothing else. It was requested by the selectors that the players concentrate on their job whole heartedly. It was mentioned that the contracted players have all the facilities that is required for them to do their job well. The 2 full time selectors namely Hashan Tillakarathne & Promodaya Wickremesinghe will be there at all given times when training & when matches are being played.
It is important to mention that this is the first time that the newly elected selectors met all the technical teams of the game of cricket and it was assured that this transparency will continue until their term ends.
Jayasuriya was flanked by his committee of four other national selectors Hashan Tillakaratne, Pramodya Wickremasinghe, Eric Upashantha and Chaminda Mendis at these meetings.
