Nilfer appointed head Coach for Junior World Rugby Tournament

By Shamseer Jaleel Former Kingswood, Kandy SC, Navy SC player and former head coach of Trinity and man in charge of the unbeaten Isipathana outfit Nilfer Ibrahim has been appointed as the Head Coach for the Junior World Rugby Tournament (JWRT) Asian qualifier which will take place at the Race Course rugby grounds from 21 to 28 September. Along with the hosts Sri Lanka there will be Hong Kong, Chine Taipei and Korea who will lock horns in this year’s tournament. Nilfer who was instrumental in bringing Sri Lankan sevens rugby team in to number three slots last year did a remarkable job by winning all trophies under his guidance at Isipathana. He will have his school mate Ananda Kasturiarachchi as the Technical Advisor for the national team. Japan already qualified for the Junior World Rugby Cup in Lisbon Portugal, winner of this tournament will take part in another home and away match against the Pacific Island winners. The winner of this encounter will book their berth in next year’s Youth Rugby World Cup 2015. Already 35 players are in the squad and the final 22 will be selected after the trial games on September 2. This year’s Trinity skipper Tharinda Ratwatte is tipped to lead the Sri Lanka Youth team.
