Nishantha emerges as world’s carom champion

Captain of Sri Lanka’s carom team Nishantha Fernando emerged as men’s singles world champion at the sixth World Carom Championship held in Colombo. Nishantha Fernando beat C. Bharathidasan of India by 2-0 to win the singles event. Sixth World Carom Championship organised by International Carom Federation and hosted by Sri Lanka Carom Federation was held from 31 October to 4 November at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo.



The championship was held with the participation of 120 carom players and officials from 18 countries representing Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Middle East including world champions India.

Indian K. Sriniwas and Bharatidasan beat defending champions Sri Lanka 3-0 in the team championship finals. Sri Lanka team comprising 10 players was captained by Nishantha Fernando.
